Make Comprehensive and Authoritative Content

Creating content to boost traffic to your website can seem like a difficult task since the internet is a huge place with a lot of competition.  Here are a few tips to help you create content to compete in such a challenging arena online.

BuzzSumo analyzed 100 million articles published in their 2018 Content Trends Report.  They discovered interesting trends from 2017 about social content sharing, viral posts, and content that has staying power.

This report showed that in the past three years social sharing of content has been halved.  That seems odd considering the increased use of social media platforms, but the reality is content saturation and the rise in private sharing through direct and private messages has created this decline in public sharing.

Given this situation, these are a few things you can do to make sure your content is comprehensive and ready to rank high in search results to beat out your competition.

Produce Long-Form Content

Create long-form content that is in-depth about specific topics to ensure they are positioned as the kind of results Google and similar search engines are looking for.  This means that you should create long-form content so that it attains a higher rank to be the best possible result for potential customers performing searches on the web.

Long-form content that is at least 2,000 words tends to outrank shorter form content in search results.  With that in mind, it is important to create content that is up-to-date on certain topics as they pertain to your business, but also evergreen content so that it can rank without having to have major periodic updates.

Make Your Content Evergreen

Evergreen content usually denotes content that is search-optimized that remains relevant to users and customers over time.

The ROI (return on investment) for this type of content is huge. It saves a lot of time, it ranks high in search engine results and is found more consistently through generating organic traffic on the internet.

LSI Keywords

We’ve previously gone over the importance of keywords and keyword phrases and how they help your content rank high in search engines.

More specifically it is important to use LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) Keywords in the content you produce.

Google and other search engines use LSI algorithms to compare the relationships between terms, concepts, and ideas.

LSI Keywords are those that are strong and semantically-related to a certain topic.  This means words or phrases that are conceptually tied to this topic should be used in your content where it is a social media post or blog.

For instance, if your business deals with cars, it would be a good idea to include words like automobiles, tires, vehicles, etc. in the content you create.

Optimize your content by making it long-form, evergreen, and using LSI keywords and you’ll be sure to beat your competition in a competitive landscape.
